Chair Studies: 2022

Sometimes it’s about play, sometimes it’s about doing a thing… and sometimes it’s about nothing at all but a compulsion. I could tell you it’s about queering a domestic object and queering movement, of which both are true. But does it matter? These are experiments, or studies, relating to space and a place in a playful and meditative way.

Chair Studies were performed and filmed at Acre Residency in 2022 where there were ample chairs littered, or should I say thoughtfully dispersed, throughout the grounds. These chairs have offered uncharted support and respite to countless artists. These chairs supported me and a cohort of remarkable artists.

Most recently, Chair Studies continued as I made site specific work at The Villa Terrace Art Museum over a series of visits. I filmed in the winter, spring and summer interacting with the house and grounds. There are 25 Chair Studies thus far.
